Perceptions of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) among Patients: A South Asian Perspective to the MAFLD vs NAFLD Debate

Abstract

Background: There has been a proposal to change the nomenclature of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) to MAFLD (Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease). European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA) supposedly has insisted on the name change. Before a change is effected, it is imperative that we study the perceptions among patients regarding NAFLD and the arguments advanced in favour of the name change.
