Abstract

In 1989 Marjoribanks examined relationships among social status, birth order, sibsize and Australian adolescents' perceptions of family learning environments. This present study investigated similar relationships for 387 14-yr.-old Hong Kong students. The findings from the two investigations suggest a modified sibling dilution hypothesis that there are significant differences between boys and girls in the nature of the associations among social status, sibling variables, and adolescents' perceptions of family cultural and social capital.
