Abstract

ObjectivesData on the perception of the nutrition care process in France are rare. In a logic of multidisciplinary care organization, the aim of the study was to shed light on the vision of dieticians and partner health professionals. Materials and methodsAn exploratory qualitative study was conducted between March and July 2018 in three AP–HP sites using focus groups and semi-directive interviews. ResultsSeventeen dieticians, four dietician managers and 48 other professionals were interviewed. Dieticians had a positive perception of the structuring effect of the care approach and the professionalization of documentation. Their vision was more mixed regarding improving patient care. A legitimization of their expertise and their contribution in interdisciplinarity have been well recognized. ConclusionThe nutrition care process is useful for the patients care and the dieticians enhancement. One step remains: the dieticians more active contribution to the interprofessional dynamic using this structured reflection, especially during staff meetings, for a better understood nutritional care shared by all. Nutrition diagnosis and the use of international dietetics and nutrition terminology for patient care will enable participation in research. The need to re-engineer studies is becoming unavoidable.
