Abstract

Background: Women with UI who attend basic health units have no prospect of treatment at this level of care. Aims: to know the perception of users of basic health units in Chapecó about urinary incontinence and physiotherapy. Method: Data collection was carried out in the waiting room of four basic health units, in the city of Chapecó/SC, from April to May 2021. A questionnaire with open and closed questions related to age, parity, was applied. type of delivery, if there is loss of urine, quantity and type, and there is knowledge about the role of physiotherapy in urinary incontinence. Results: 58 women were interviewed, most aged between 26 and 45 years, with two children and had a cesarean section. As for UI, 48.3% of them reported some type of UI, 50% SUI, 35.71% UUI 14.28% mixed. About the knowledge of physiotherapy, 66.1% of them do not know what it is. Conclusion: Many users have urinary incontinence and are unaware of physical therapy treatment. It is suggested to implement prevention, promotion and awareness programs on urinary incontinence in primary care and on the benefits of pelvic physiotherapy.
