Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has generated a multidimensional transformation in higher education. The sudden change in teaching modality that it brought about, together with the growing use of mobile devices for academic activities, placed a considerable burden on universities, who adjusted their institutional programs in order to enhance the pedagogical benefit of technologies in education. In this context, this study analyzes some perceptions of young university students about their digital academic skills and virtual education during the pandemic. The qualitative approach was used and the focus group technique was implemented in which a total of 26 young men and women between 18-26 years old participated in two campuses of the University of Guadalajara. The findings revealed that although the perception of their academic digital skills is good, objectively there were areas of opportunity for improvement. On the other hand, the general perception of virtual education has been bad at the beginning of the pandemic and has been changing at the end of it, presenting challenges mainly in the intentional design of teaching and learning activities.
