Abstract

Stress manifests itself in all walks of life. In the prevailing cut throat competition, organizations expect their workforce to overcome their stress and exhibit discretionary behavior namely Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB). This study examines the impact of perceived stress on OCB and the role of work motivation in suppressing the effect of perceived stress and enhancing OCB. Three hundred and ninety (390) respondents representing twenty midsized wet grinder clusters in India participated in research. Correlation analysis between the three variables showed the existence of negative relationship between work motivation and perceived stress, and the existence of positive relationship between work motivation and OCB. Mediation analysis (Preacher & Hayes, 2008) indicated that work motivation partial mediates the relationship between perceived stress and OCB.
