Abstract

A study was undertaken to investigate and compare the major ethnic groups (Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba) of Nigeria and their corresponding Sex classes (male and female) for perceived preference of salt in meat. Forty individuals from each ethnic group constituting twenty males and twenty female’s subjects were administered open ended questionnaires to generate data.120 subjects conveniently drawn from student population of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The data obtained from the subjects were analyzed using descriptive statistics. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in perceived preference for salt in meat across all subjects, all ethnic groups attributed more salt intake to itself and all sex classes attributed it to females.
