Abstract

The comparison of photocatalytic decolorization of Methylene Blue and Methyl Orange using ZnO Semiconductor under UV-LED radiation has been studied at varied pH. ZnO have been synthesized using co-precipitation method. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) result showed that the synthesized ZnO has a hexagonal structure with the particle size range 0.125 to 0.5 µm. The BET isotherm characterization showed the synthesized ZnO has a specific surface area (SBET), mesoporous volume and micropore volume of 60.20 m2/g, 0.541 cm3/g and 0.02 cm3/g, respectively. The observation of the effect of pH to the photocatalytic activity showed that the highest removal percentage occurred at pH 9 with the value of 95.64% for methylene blue and occurred at pH 3 with the value of 6.236% for methyl orange.Â

Metodologi Penelitian

Bahan kimia Bahan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah aqua DM, Seng Asetat Dihidrat (Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O; Merck), Natrium Hidroksida (NaOH; Merck Millipore), Etanol P.A (Merck Millipore; 99,5%), air demineralisasi, metil jingga (C14H14N3NaO3S; Merck Millipore) dan metilen biru (C16H18ClN3S, Merck Millpore). Peralatan Alat yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu micropipette, gelas beaker (50 mL dan 100 mL), pipet tetes, pipet ukur 5 mL, gelas ukur 25 mL, kaca arloji, labu ukur 25 mL dan 10 mL, pengaduk kaca, botol semprot, magnetic stirrer, hotplate, neraca analitik, termometer, crucible, muffle furnace, Indikator Universal (Merck), reaktor fotokatalitis yang dilapisi dengan aluminium foil dan lampu UV-LED (EPILEDS, 3 Watt, λ=365 nm) sebagai sumber penyinaran (Gambar 1), centrifuge, instrumen X-Ray Diffraction (X’pert PRO), instrumen Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (Flexsem 1000 Hitachi), adsorpsi gas N2 (Quantachrome Nova), dan Instrumen spektrofotometer UV-Vis (Geneysis 10S UV-Vis)
