Abstract
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) business group is the most able to withstand ketikakrisis economic hit this country. The increase in the number of units the SME lapangankerja open so that plays an important role in the economic and industrial growth of a country. Limitations of SMES in increasing competitiveness among others lack creativity and innovation as well as pemodalan and markets. This research aims to know the factors that affect the performance of SMES in the town of Pasuruan, in terms of entrepreneurial role and competencies of human resources. The role of self-employment is seen from some of the factors that is innovative, proactive and risk management, while the human resource competency as seen from the factors of knowledge, skills and abilities. Analytical techniques used is multiple regression analysis. Sampling in this study using a purposive sampling method, in which SMES are being sampled is the SME food field in the town of Pasuruan. The results showed that of the entrepreneurial role of factors that influence positively and significantly to the performance of SMES in the field of food and drink in the town of Pasuruan is innovative and proactive, where innovative is the influential most dominant variable with regression coefficients of 0372. HR competence factor variables from the perpetrator of the SMES that positive and significant effect among other skills, abilities and knowledge, where skill is the dominant effect variables with coefficients of the regression of 0318.
