Abstract


 Reading the Qur'an is the duty of every Muslim. But the reality is that in Indonesia there are still many who cannot read the Koran, including among the elderly. Even though old age is an important period to become a momentum towards lasting happiness. Overcoming these problems, the role of Islamic Religious Counselors is expected so that the interest in learning the Qur'an for Muslims, especially the elderly, will increase. The purpose of this study was to find out the role of Islamic Religious Instructors in increasing interest in learning the Qur'an in the elderly at UPT Pelayanan Sosial Lanjut Usia Binjai. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was carried out by collecting primary data obtained from interviews and secondary data obtained from journals and books. Data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Based on the research conducted, there was an increase in interest in learning the Qur'an in the elderly after counseling was carried out by the Islamic Religion Counselor at UPT Pelayanan Sosial Lanjut Usia Binjai. This increase in interest in learning is marked by the enthusiasm of the elderly in participating in learning and also improving the quality of reading the Qur'an
