Abstract

The immigration wave to Italy at the beginning of the 1990s has brought a new flow of literary works, later called «migration literature». Nowadays the migrant writings are very different from the first years and the textual analysis, the fields of research and the same ways to observe the literary production have changed too. In the first part of this work, I will draw a brief historical profile of Italian migrant literature; in the second part, I will make a reflection on the complexity of including these writings in the “canon” and in the literary criticism categories. The proposal of this work is to start a discussion about methods of analysis of the new “world literature”, focusing on the independence of migrant writings, on their re-formulation of the traditional genres due to the liminal position of these literary works.
