Abstract

This volume analyses how political structures in south India underwent the transition from Vijayanagara to early colonial rule. Its focus is on south-eastern India, but the discussion is wide-ranging and comparative. Recent theories are evaluated and discussed, and a rich body of empirical materials is brought to bear on the question.
