Abstract
Pentateuchal traditions in the book Hosea This article is concerned with the much debated topic of references to Israel’s historical traditions in the book Hosea. The study is mainly directed at the question of the function of Pentateuchal traditions within the context of the book. The higher occurrence of these traditions from Hosea 9 onwards is also looked at, and a possible explanation of this feature is offered in conclusion.

Summary
This article is concerned with the much debated topic of references to Israel’s historical traditions in the book Hosea. INLEIDING Die boek Hosea bevat besonder baie verwysings na tradisies en gebeure wat deel uitm aak van die geskiedenis van Israel soos dit aangebied word in die Ou Testa ment. Uit die voorafgaande is dit met die eerste oogopslag duidelik dat verwysings na die uittog uit Egipte baie meer voorkom as die ander Pentateugtradisies. Indien ander verwysings na gebeure uit die vroeë geskiedenis van Israel ook in berekening gebring word, kom dit ooreen met die patroon wat uit die inventaris blyk. By die nuwe ‘intog’ (vs 17a) sal Israel se gesindheid wees soos wat dit was met die uittog uit Egipte (vs 17b). Die uittog uit Egipte word dus in Hosea 8:13 gebruik om oor Efraim se toekoms te praat. Hosea 9:3 en 6 stei dit ook uitdruklik dat Efraim nie na die land van JH W H sou terugkeer nie (Breytenbach 1979:219-225). Die verband en verhouding tussen die fees van die eerste vrugte en die afstaan van die tiendes verg egter ’n te omvattende beredenering en sal daarom nie hier verder aandag geniet nie
