Abstract

The public sector pensions bill currently before parliament is inherently unfair and would hit NHS workers harder than any other group of public sector workers, the BMA has argued in an analysis of the financial implications of the current proposals. The legislation, which has its second parliamentary reading on 22 October, would embed disparities across and within public sector pension schemes and would give the government sweeping powers to make further, possibly retrospective, changes, the association said. “There is no justification for the scale of the planned changes or the speed at which they are to be implemented,” it claimed.
