Abstract
Few people in Britain so far have experienced old age as divorcees, but the proportion of women over 60 who are divorced is expected to increase from 3 percent in 1985 to 13 per cent in 2025. One reason why this is a matter for concern is that changes in women's participation in paid work have not, thus far, secured financial self-sufficiency for all after a divorce.
