Abstract

This entry summarizes the importance of the 2004 Supreme Court Case Pennsylvania State Police v. Suders . The case involved a sexual harassment claim made by the victim, Nancy Suders, after she was forced to quit her job as a dispatcher for the Pennsylvania state police after repeated sexually explicit and sexual‐ and gender‐bias comments by coworkers and supervisors. The importance of the case is noted in the lack of clarity provided by the Supreme Court in the final ruling as to how the court views the “responsibility” of the employer and the “rights” of the accuser in following procedure in employment‐based sexual harassment claims.
