Abstract

A prolonged penile erection lasting more than 4-6 hours in the absence of sexual stimulation is defined as priapism. There are three broad classifications: non-ischemic, stuttering, and ischemic priapism. Non-ischemic is least common, typically a painless erection, and not associated with Erectile Dysfunction(ED). Stuttering priapism refers to recurrent episodes of painful erections lasting less than 3 hours. It is associated with Sickle Cell Disease(SCD) caused by corpus cavernosum sinusoid venocclusion, due to sickled erythrocyte sludging.
