Abstract

A clinical, histopathologic and ionic trace study was made of the effect of steroids, penicillamine and combined treatment on rabbit corneal burns by sodium hydroxide. Steroids are collagenase stimulators. Penicillamine is not only a collagenase inhibitor, but also a potent anti-inflammatory agent, which nevertheless can only counteract partially the steroid effect in corneal burns.
