Abstract

This study aims to identify the involvement of academicians on the teaching of the hadith. The contribution of the academic to the teaching of the hadith is indispensable in expounding the meaning of al-Sunnah as a second source of Islamic law. This study selected academicians from several universities including the University of Malaya, the National University of Malaysia, the Islamic Science University of Malaysia and the International Islamic University; in which they are all in involved in various fields of Islamic Studies. The method used in this study is a questionnaire which is group sampling. The author distributed the questionnaire to the academic staff at the university. Based on this descriptive analysis of the questionnaire, it can be concluded that the academicians involved, played a significant role in raising the awareness on the important oh Sunnah. They also contribute to the expanding of communities in understanding the hadith and used multiple rooms as their premises such as universities, mosques, surau and others. This shows that most academicians have good knowledge in relation to the study of hadith. Therefore, they are among the most suitable to be used as references to the community in solving the problems of Sunnah and bid’ah, especially the academicians who are experts in the field of hadith.
