Abstract

The presence of God and God’s saving deeds are the main theological issues in the history of theology. Theology of liturgy and sacrament always deals with the question about how to explain God’s presence in the celebrations of faith and in the symbols and media that are used in the sacraments. The discussion about the meaning of God’s presence and about the role of media in the liturgy and sacrament becomes a serious debate during the situation of this pandemic covid-19. This article focuses on the issue of the role of media in the liturgy (of the Eucharist) in order to reflect on the meaning of our hope for the presence of God and God’s saving deed. This article will be based on Louis Marie Chauvet’s understanding on the theology of the presence of God and based on Jean-Luc Marion’s explanation about media as an icon and idol.
