Abstract

Self-assessment or assessment is a diagnostic tool to see the effectiveness of the learning method. The assessment can help students to show how much they are progressing in learning a foreign language. This can motivate students to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, and introduce the ability to learn independently. Nevertheless, the role of a teacher is no less important in the learning process. This article discusses an alternative assessment of personal responses, which is in accordance with principles that focus on students by using the new methodology as a whole of teaching informative evaluation. Alternative assessments also introduce an atmosphere of trust where the students being evaluated are involved in the evaluation process itself. They are asked to communicate freely and are better able to criticize themselves and rethink. The involvement of students in the assessment helps them achieve maturity and responsibility and make progress in language learning
