Abstract
Hypertension is one of the diseases that many elderly suffer, if it is not handled properly it will cause various complications and even death, while the management of hypertension itself must really be considered considering the elderly who have experienced decreased organ function if pharmacological therapy is continued. Ergonomic exercise is a solution non-pharmacological therapy used to reduce blood pressure in the elderly. This study aims to determine the effect of ergonomic exercise on the reduction of blood pressure in elderly hypertension This research has been conducted at the social institution tresna werda kasih sayang ibu Batusangkar during the months of June-July 2020. The design of this study was a pre-experiment with a one group pretest-postest design approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with the number of respondents 14 elderly people with hypertension, the sample was given ergonomic exercise for 20 minutes 6 times in 2 weeks. Data collection was carried out by measuring blood pressure. Data analysis in this study used the Wicoxon test. The results showed that most of the elderly blood pressure (64.3%) showed moderate blood pressure after being given ergonomic exercise. Based on the statistical test, it was found that the value of p = 0.001, which means that there is a significant difference in changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. Thus it can be concluded that ergonomic exercise has an effect on reducing blood pressure in the elderly. Researchers hope that ergonomic exercise can be applied as an alternative to lowering blood pressure in hypertensive elderly people and can be one of the nursing interventions before pharmacological therapy is carried out to minimize drug side effects in the elderly.
