Abstract

Febrile seizure is an acute neurological disorder that is most often found in children. Seizures occur because of an increase in body temperature above 380C caused by the extra cranial process. Good knowledge of mothers about febrile seizures and the handling will reduce the risk of recurrent seizures in children. This study aims to determine the effect of health education on maternal knowledge about the prevention and treatment of febrile seizures at the Regional General Hospital of dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Serang in 2018. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest posttest one group study design. The research used consecutive sampling technique with 39 respondents in Flamboyan room 2 and 3 of Regional General Hospital of dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Serang. The statistical test used dependent t test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the knowledge of the pretest and posttest with p value = 0.000 and the mean value between the knowledge of the pretest and posttest was -5.077. The researcher can conclude that health education is very influential in increasing the knowledge of mothers about prevention and treatment of febrile seizures so that they can be applied at home and recurrent febrile seizures do not occur. Researchers suggest that hospitals increase and provide health education media; booklet with an attractive appearance so as to add insight and understanding efforts on prevention and management of seizures by mothers at home.
