Abstract

Progressive muscle relaxation is one way to deal with stress in the learning process. Based on the presurvey in the S1 Nursing Study Program, the number of complaints against stress in the preparation of the thesis continues to increase. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of progressive muscle relaxation techniques on stress levels in VIII semester nursing students. This type of research is quasi-experimental, with one group pretest-posttest research design. The population in this study was VIII semester students. The sample consisted of 30 people with purposive sampling method. The study was conducted in September 2015 at the University of Batam. Data collection tools for relaxation guide sheets and questionnaires to determine stress levels. Data were analyzed using Paired sample t-test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that before progressive muscle relaxation was given stress level 54 (moderate stress), after being given a progressive muscle relaxation technique level 33 (mild stress). The results of bivariate analysis obtained p-value 0.00 (α <0.05) which means that H0 is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of providing progressive muscle relaxation techniques on stress levels in students in writing a thesis. It is expected that nursing institutions progressive muscle relaxation techniques can be a method of stress control.
