Abstract

This study aims to explore the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' mathematics concept understanding and self-concept. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class VIII G with 27 students and class VIII H with 25 students, which were selected using Purposive Sampling Technique based on certain considerations. The research design used was non-equivalent control group design. The research data were collected through a description test on flat-sided spaces. Data analysis was conducted using t-test and correlation test. The conclusion is that the increase in understanding of mathematical concepts of students who follow the PBL model is higher than the increase in understanding of mathematical concepts of students who follow conventional learning
