Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important food crop in Indonesia. Induction of gamma ray irradiation on rice is expected to increase genetic diversity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of gamma irradiation on the growth of local ramos rice seedlings of the M1 generation. This study used a non-factorial randomized block design with 3 replications. The doses used were 0 (control), 150 Gy, 200 Gy, 250 Gy and 300 Gy. Parameters observed were growth percentage, lethal dose 50% (LD50), seedling height and root length in the nursery phase. The results showed that the LD50 value of ramos rice was 175 Gy, iinhibition of seedling growth due to gamma ray irradiation caused a significant effect on the character of seedling height, namely at a dose of 300 Gy.
