Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in soil pH, organic-C, and total-N after application of chicken manure on Ultisols, to determine its effect on plant growth of cayenne pepper and at what dose of application of chicken manure gave the best effect on plant growth of cayenne pepper. The research was carried out in Kebun Percobaan II and soil analysis was carried out at laboratory of the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University. The study was conducted from Juny to December 2021. The study used a one-factor randomized Block Design (RBD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications, so there were 20 experimental units. Treatment A0 = control (without chicken manure), A1 = 30 t ha-1 or equivalent to 150 grams of polybag-1, A2 = 40 t ha-1 or equivalent to 200 grams of polybag-1, A3 = 50 t ha-1 or equivalent to 250 grams polybag-1, A4 = 60 t ha-1 or the equivalent of 300 grams of polybag-1. The results showed that (1) application of chicken manure on Ultisol was able to increase soil pH, organic-C, and total-N. pH increased from pH 4.8 to pH 6.3 or an increase of 24%, organic-C increased from 0.50% to 2.07% or increased 76% and total-N increased from 0.05% to 0, 10% or an increase of up to 50%, (2) there is an effect of chicken manure on plant height and number of branches of cayenne pepper on Ultisol and (3) A4 treatment with a dose of 60 t ha-1 is the treatment that gives the best effect on cayenne pepper growth.
