Abstract

However limited study had examined the effect of acupressure to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This quasi experimental trial was conducted to identify the effect of acupressure on blood glucose level in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Purposive samples of 32 patients were enrolled. They were divided into intervention (n = 16) and control group (n = 16). Paired t-test have been used to examine the effectiveness of acupressure before and after intervention. The results showed a significant difference in blood glucose levels between the intervention group and the control group (t = 4.22; p = 0.001). Acupressure is an effective intervention to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Acupressure can be recommended as one of the independent complementary therapies in nursing care among patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
