Abstract

The article by Balachandran et al., [ [1] Balachandran G. Bharathy K.G.S. Sikora S.S Penetrating injuries of the inferior vena cava. Injury. 2020; Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (5) Google Scholar ] published in Injury in August 2020 and entitled “Penetrating injuries of the inferior vena cava” is of significant value for extensively reviewing a life-threatening vascular injury. However, in the mechanism, patterns of injury and classification of penetrating injuries of the inferior vena cava, it should not be overlooked that the inferior vena cava can also be injured iatrogenically, during spinal surgery, especially during lumbar disc procedures, when the anterior longitudinal ligament is breached [ [2] Balak N. These kinds of iatrogenic injuries of the inferior vena usually occur in spinal surgery between the L1 and L4 vertebrae.
