Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) implementation of mathematics learning by applying realistic mathematics education approach (2) improvement of students' mathematical concept understanding after applying realistic mathematics education approach. This research is based on the low understanding of students' concepts on learning mathematics with an average of 49.03 and Minimum Exhaustiveness Criteria (KKM) is 75.00 in grade IV SDN located in Bandung. The research method used Classroom Action Research (PTK) according Kemmis and MC. Taggart is implemented in two cycles using a qualitative and quantitative approach. The results showed that the students' concept of understanding improved from cycle I with average 70.00 to 83.00 in cycle II. The conclusion of this research is that the realistic mathematics education approach can improve the understanding of mathematical concept of fourth grade students of SDN that is located in Bandung
