Abstract

This study aims to improve to the ability to read the understanding of fourth grade elementary school students with the application of learning methods SQ3R. The objective of the implementation of this research is to see the urgency of language skill problem that must be mastered and important for the students is reading. Since, this research backround is due to the fact that students ability to understand a text reading is very low. The purpose of this is to describe the implementation, planning, and improvement of reading comprehension with SQ3R method. The research method used is a classroom action research Kemmis and Taggart models in three cycles. Based on this study found that there is an increase in the ability to read the understanding of the first cycle of 53,12% to 81,25% in cycle II and increases by 93,75% in cycle III. This increase is seen based on the learning outcomes that students obtain from the total value of the process (LKS) and the final value (evaluation). Based on research can be concluded that the application of SQ3R method can improve the ability to read the understanding fourth grade students.
