Abstract

The Javan spitting cobra Naja sputatrix Boie, 1827 is a venomous snake from theElapidae family with the distribution from Java to Nusa Tenggara. It is harvested for decades in Java to supply the international market, especially for the skin and flesh. Research of the biological aspects was conducted in September 2013 by visiting 3(three) slaughterhouses and its habitats in Central Java. The Cobras will be measured the length of the body and tail. Furthermore, the organs will be dissected and observed their sexes and reproductive conditions. Adult males are known through their pair of testes and vas-defferent milky white. Adult females are known through their eggs ordeveloping egg follicles or their corpus albicantia indicating the prior reproductive process. Diameter of eggs or follicles will be calculated and measured . The observation was conducted bywalking along the pits of the ditch along the rice fields during the day. The results showed that the harvested Javan spitting cobras in Central Java were mostly adult. The total examined snakes were 166 with 100 males and 66 females. The body length of the female on average larger than the male.
