Abstract
Apart from entertaining, Literature and cinema are playing significant role to reveal social issues since long time. In postmodern period, J.K. Rowling’s Harry potter novel series is the finest instance, which is adapted for making films and focus on prevailing issues of contemporary society. Rowling uses mythology to portray world of wizards and muggles (non-magical people) with all kind of social issues like class discrimination, racism, orphanage, slavery, etc. For that Rowling has borrowed characters and creatures from world mythology to make her Potter world prudent and multicolored. Present paper aims to focus on the significance of mythology in the contemporary society of Harry Potter Series of novels and films. An attempt is made to study the usage of mythological elements which convey moral message and reveal social aspects and issues of current society in the series.
