Abstract

This article discusses the rationale of introducing community service activities as teaching and learning activities in Moral Education in primary schools. A total of six participants, comprising Year 5 students from SJKT Somasundram, Kuala Muda District, Kedah were directly involved in this study. Qualitative methods using case study designs have been used in data collection. The findings of the study were obtained through interview protocols, observations and document scrutiny. The findings showed that community service programmes infused through the teaching and learning Moral Education form the behaviour of students with good morals with the application of all three moral domains that include domain of reasoning, the domain of feeling and domain of behavior in a balanced manner. Community service programmes are proposed as a new component incorporated in Moral Education subjects in primary school so that the learning and teaching process is carried out in a robust manner that enriches knowledge, enhances communication skills and empowers the formation of moral behavior.
