Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the improvement of critical thinking ability of pre-service teacher students on Ecosystem and Biodiversity concepts after applying practicum based learning. The method of this research is quasi-experiment with the one group pretest-postest design. The sample were 2nd semester pre-service teacher students at biology education department that following the Environmental Science Course at FKIP Tanjungpura University, consist of 34 students. Data were collected through multiple choice test with reasoning and essay test, and were analyzed by using mean-difference test and normalized gain score. The result of gain score show that critical thinking ability were improve (0,39) through this learning model. Conclusion of this research, practicum based learning give positive influence to critical thinking ability of pre-service teacher students.Keywords : practicum based learning, critical thinking ability

Ekosistem dan Keanekaragaman

Karena selama ini pembelajaran hanya terbatas melalui pemberian informasi/ceramah dan penugasan. Konsep ekosistem dan keanekaragaman hayati menarik untuk diteliti karena sangat berkaitan dengan kehidupan nyata dan banyak permasalahan yang dapat dimunculkan. Indonesia memiliki beberapa tipe ekosistem dan keanekaragaman hayati yang melimpah dan harus dilestarikan. Melalui pembelajaran berbasis praktikum diharapkan mahasiswa mempelajari ekosistem dan keanekaragaman hayati tidak hanya menghafal konsep tetapi membangun sendiri pengetahuannya sehingga dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa melalui penerapan pembelajaran berbasis praktikum. Berpikir adalah suatu proses kognitif atau aktivitas mental untuk memperoleh pengetahuan (Presseisen dalam Costa, 1985). Menurut Priyadi (2005) berpikir kritis adalah proses mental untuk menganalisis atau mengevaluasi informasi. Mahasiswa yang menggunakan keterampilan berpikir kritis memikirkan hubungan antara variabel-variabel dengan mengembangkan pemahaman logis, memahami asumsi-asumsi dan biasbias yang mendasari proses utamanya
