Abstract

A case of Pellegrini-Stieda's disease is reported in which a non-surgical plan of treatment was followed and resulted in relief of symptoms and apparent cure after fourteen months. This disease seems to me to be a metaplasia initiated by trauma and I believe that rest of the injured tissues by partial immobilization removes the stimulus to further metaplasia and hastens arrest of the process, with relief of symptoms. Immediate post-traumatic and subsequent roentgenograms are essential to establish the diagnosis and prognosis. An adequate period of conservative treatment by immobilization should be tried prior to any surgical intervention.
