Abstract

Religious Education, as a component of National Education System, has an important role for developing Indonesian citizens who have imam (belief) and taqwa (faith) to One God. That is why UUSPN 1989 and GBHN 1993 put Religious Education in the curruculum as a compulsory subject in schools. This research has identified what strategies and efforts have been taken by religious teachers for undertaking religious instruction in schools and identified what factors have stimulated or disturbed the application of religious instructions. The results indicate that religious teachers have tried to apply religious instruction as a basis for developing Indonesian citizens. The researcher recommended that the findings be used to increase religious instruction in all schools and in designing further research
