Abstract

In this correspondence, the problem of recursive motion estimation and compensation in image subbands is considered. A pel recursive algorithm is presented for this purpose and it is shown experimentally that the motion can be compensated almost as well as in the original fields. Based on this algorithm, a scalable and recursive video coding scheme is outlined which is compared successfully to a hybrid coding scheme based on block matching.
