Abstract

An environment-friendly approach for synthesizing naphthoquinone/coumarin fused dihydropyridine derivatives is described using a multicomponent strategy. The three-component reaction of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, cyclic 1,3-diketone, and 1,3-C,N-binucleophiles such as 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone or 4-aminocoumarin in PEG-200 as solvent provided the styryl-linked naphthoquinone/coumarin fused dihydropyridine derivatives. Step economic synthesis, green solvent, simple one-pot method, easy purification process, and good to moderate yields of the desired products are the key features of this method. Bioactive moieties such as dihydropyridine, styrene and coumarin/naphthoquinone are present in the product.
