Abstract

In the last decade, new energy policies have boosted the integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) into the electrical power system in an attempt to reduce fossil fuel consumption and move toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy system. A good example of this is the 2020 and 2030 energy strategy of the European Union. The established goals of this policy require a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions and at least a 27% increase of shared renewable energy consumption and a 27% increase in energy savings.
