Abstract

An extension of the partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) model for lossy magnetic medium in frequency domain is developed and verified with a magnetically enhanced planar inductive device in this paper. The magnetic material cell is firstly represented using a distribution of equivalent conductive current source, polarized current source, magnetized current source and polarized charge source according to volume equivalence principle. Then the external port impedance matrix formula of a PEEC network is derived. In order to simplify the original complex PEEC network, a model order reduction method based on generalized eigenvalue theory is adopted. A 3-D electromagnetic PEEC model of a magnetically enhanced planar inductor are set up and tested as an example. A good agreement between the PEEC simulation and measurements is presented up to 200 MHz.
