Abstract
In 1994, when AAP District IX members began expressing strong concerns about managed care issues affecting their pediatric practices, the Managed Care Task Force was established. California9s rapidly changing health care delivery system and the shift of more patients into HMO plans, both in the private and Medi-Cal sectors, raised important issues among pediatricians. Members worried that patients in managed care plans might not have access to pediatricians for primary care and specialty services. Another concern was that pediatricians might not be categorized as primary care professionals in some HMOs/IPAs—only as specialists.
