Abstract

Supporting resident well-being is an important responsibility of residency program leadership, but one which many program leaders feel ill-equipped to address. In July 2018, we published our study entitled “Pediatric Program Leadership's Contribution Toward Resident Wellness.” 1 Carson SL Perkins K Reilly MR et al. While most program leaders strongly agreed supporting resident well-being is an important part of their role, few program leaders’ job descriptions explicitly listed supporting resident well-being as part of their role. Most program leaders desired additional training and institutional/national resources to support residents’ well-being. Program leaders felt supporting residents was one of the most rewarding aspects of their role, but also contributed to personal burnout.
