Abstract

Background: Teratomas are a germ cell tumor characterized by the presence of embryonic ectoderm-, endoderm-, and mesoderm-derived tissue in non-anatomic locations. They can be further classified as mature, benign with low rates of malignant transformation, or immature which are malignant. They are generally discovered in the gonads and sacrococcygeal regions with rare accounts of abdominal and visceral organ teratomas in the literature. We describe the first case of a pancreatic teratoma with focal calcification and bone formation in the pediatric population.
