Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory: Clinical Interpretation of Summary Scores Using Rasch Rating Scale Methodology

Abstract

This article summarizes the development of the PEDI and the clinical interpretation of the normative standard scores, scaled scores, changes in scaled scores, and goodness-of-fit statistics. Examples are given to illustrate the correspondence between the summary scores and the underlying hierarchic item scale. The authors believe that the Rasch Rating Scale model provides a methodology to assist the clinician in the proper interpretation and use of summary scores derived from the PEDI.
