Abstract
I am delighted to introduce this section of REACH (Reflections on Advocacy and Ethics in Child Health), focused on pediatric and adolescent gender health. Gender-diverse youth include those whose identified gender is different than their sex assigned at birth. Gender health, a relatively new specialty area within pediatrics, encompasses the medical treatment of gender-diverse youth and addresses health disparities resulting from stigma, discrimination, and differential access to care. Pediatric and adolescent gender health issues have engendered a great deal of controversy, and this special section highlights both empiric data and conceptual analyses that contribute to an ethics discourse on the topic.
