Abstract
Peddie and Kinnear designed three of the great hydropathics, Dunblane, Craiglockhart and Callander. Although their life-spans as curative institutions were remarkably short, as a building type they represent the genesis of the Scottish leisure industry. Using the drawings in the Dick Peddie and McKay Collection at the National Monuments Record of Scotland, this paper traces their development, with special concentration on changes in the treatment rgime, and on the finances of the companies that built them.
