Right from its origins, and clearly discernable in the first pre-eminent writers - Herodotus, Thucydides, and Xenophon - Greek Historiography was concerned with presenting deeds, attitudes, and exemplary men. Example implies a qualitative memory which brings us back to some profound dimension in ourselves. Example is the cristalization of a particular wisdom and, in so far as it is inbodied in a model, is a source of education.
