Abstract
The paper presents a two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic model of a high-current vacuum arc. The main areas of interest are the arc column and anode areas. Homogeneously distributed current density at the cathode and supersonic ion flows from the cathode region are assumed The fluid and current flows between the plane electrodes are analysed numerically. It shown that the present model has a threshold current, at which a shock wave appears in the interelectrode plasma.
