Abstract
In this article the author examined the peculiarities of the interpretation of the genre of the mass on the example of the "Little Solemn Mass" by Gioachino Rossini (1863, 1867). Gioachino Rossini is known all over the world, first of all, as the author of 39 operas, but his contribution to the development of spiritual genres of Italian music was also very significant. A small solemn mass is of great interest to choristers and conductors alike due to the wide variety of numbers, choral, solo, and instrumental techniques. This paper discusses some of the features of this work, the canonicity of the text, structure, and style of music. Of greatest interest is the comparison of the main parts of the mass by different composers of the same historical period from the point of view of figurative and stylistic interpretation. One of the features of Rossini's interpretation of the mass genre is the text. In addition to the textual features, the “Little Solemn Mass” is distinguished by a number of deviations from the generally accepted canon, for example, by the composition of the performers. It is also worth noting that the extensive use of polyphonic techniques brings it closer to the samples of the Baroque era and even earlier works of strictly style.
